Betty Jean Makrenos

Betty Jean Makrenos, 71, of Franklin Township, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by her family on Thursday afternoon, May 6, 2010 in the Ellwood City Hospital ICU.

She was born in Ellwood City on March 3, 1939 to the late Howard Lowell Swick and Anna Katherine “Katie” Hienz Swick, who survives.

She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in the class of 1957 and had worked as a secretary at Calgon Corporation (Nalco) for over 40 years. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed bowling, fishing, and painting.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 44 years, Louie S. Makrenos.

She is also survived by two daughters: Marjorie (and Gary) Keck of Franklin Township, Sandra (and David) Myer of Cincinnati, OH.

Four grandchildren survive: Kandi Darr, Casey Keck, Michael Fry, and Kelly McManis; and six great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by an aunt, Betty (and John) Pavuk; sisters-in-law Katherine Fraggos and Mary Makrenos; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 6-8 P.M. on Saturday, May 8, 2010, and from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Sunday, May 9, 2010 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 10, 2010 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 307 Wayne Avenue, Ellwood City, with Rev. Peggy Suhr-Barkley, her pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park in Rochester.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or to the donor’s favorite charity.
