Joyce M. Prokop

Joyce M. Prokop, 81, formerly of 728 Crescent Avenue, Ellwood City, passed away on Friday evening, August 6, 2010 at Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle.

She was born in Ellwood City on April 22, 1929 to the late John Mackas and the late Mary Armatas Mackas.

Joyce was a graduate of Lincoln High School and worked as a bookkeeper for American Steel Corp. in Ellwood City, then a key punch operator at U.S. Steel and later Blaw-Knox. She was a member of St. George’s Orthodox Church in New Castle and was a member of the Philoptopolus Society in New Castle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Prokop, who died October 26, 1991.

She is survived by her sister, Goldie Poholsky of Ellwood City, two uncles and an aunt: Nick Armatas of San Francisco, CA, and Millia Sullivan and James Armatas of Titusville, PA.

Two nieces and a nephew also survive, Debra (and John) Karatinos of New Castle, Jeffrey (and Linda) Poholsky of Pittsburgh, and Mikie Williams of Ellwood City, in addition to several great nieces.

Friends will be received from 5:30 – 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, August 12, 2010 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, where a Trisagion service will be conducted at 6:00 P.M. by Rev. Fr. Michael Diavatis.

Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 13, 2010 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 315 West Englewood Avenue, New Castle, with Rev. Fr. Michael Diavatis officiating.

Entombment will follow in Castleview Memorial Gardens Masoleum, New Castle.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, or to the Arthritis Foundation.
