Arthur M. Gibbons, Sr.

Arthur M. Gibbons, Sr., 89 of 1923 W. Lawrence Ave. Ellwood City, PA, died at about 5:50 am on the morning of Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the Ellwood City Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Ellwood City on February 28, 1920 to the late James Patrick Gibbons and Marie A. McDevitt Gibbons.

He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Hungarian Home and he also enjoyed Hunting and Fishing.

He was retired from U.S. Steel – Ellwood Works after many years.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law Mrs. Barbara Gibbons and a son-in-law Mr. William M. Goubeaud both of Ellwood City. Two Granddaughters: Tracy (and Ken) Wiley and Marcy Gibbons and a Grandson, Scott Gibbons, all of Ellwood City. Five Great Grandchildren also survive: Evan, Breanna and Dylan Gibbons, and Kenny and Kristen Wiley.

Also surviving are two sisters and a brother-in-law: Mary (and Jim) Dombeck and Mrs. Alberta Bartle, and two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Ralph (and Helen) Gibbons, Thomas (and Pat) Gibbons, and Mrs. Ruth Gibbons, all of Ellwood City.

In addition to his parents, son and daughter, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Dora Francis, Patty Ierullo and Kay Paswell as well as four brothers: John, in infancy; James; Charles; and Richard Gibbons.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Saturday March 21, 2009, at the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Ave. Funeral Services will be conducted immediately following the Visitation at 8:00 P.M. at TURNER’S, with the Rev. Dennis Arndt officiating.

Burial will be in the Lillyville Church of God Cemetery in Franklin Township.
