Mary E. Hockenberry

Mary E. Hockenberry, 83, of New Castle (Shenango Township) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and her pastor, Rev. G. Martin Gentzler, on Thursday, October 14, 2010 in Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She was born in Portersville on the family farm on April 4, 1927 to the late George and Iva Henstock Magee.

She was a graduate of Ellwood City High School, was a longtime member of Riverview Free Methodist Church, Ellwood City, and more recently attended Gentle Shepherd Church of the Nazarene in Hermitage.

Mary was a devoted pastor’s wife, mother, and grandmother with a special passion for church mission work.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Rev. Kenneth R. Hockenberry Sr., whom she married on February 14, 1947. He died on August 2, 2005.

She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law: Rev. Daniel G. (and Shelley) Hockenberry and Douglas M. (and Ronda) Hockenberry, all of New Castle, PA; Kenneth R. (and Marcia) Hockenberry, Jr. of Fairmont, WV; Timothy L. (and Kathleen) Hockenberry of Hermitage, PA; and Charles L. (and Louise) Hockenberry of Mercer, PA.

Nine grandchildren survive, as well as fourteen great grandchildren.

The last of her family, she was preceded by three brothers and three sisters: Delbert, Harold, Thomas, and Bernice Magee, Gladys West and Dorothy Barkley.

Friends will be received from 3-6 P.M. on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010 and from 10 A.M. until the time of a Celebration of Life service at 11 A.M. on Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME OF ELLWOOD CITY, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, Ellwood City.

Interment will follow in Wurtemburg Cemetery, Wayne Twp.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Nazarene Global Mission.
