Alberta Swoger Bender

Alberta Swoger Bender, 86, of Todd Avenue, Ellwood City, passed away at 5:01 P.M. with her family at her side, on Tuesday, November 23 2010 in the Golden Hill Nursing Home, New Castle, after a short illness.

She was born in Ellwood City, PA on April 8, 1924 to the late Jesse Swoger and Eva Schmidt Swoger.

She was affiliated with the Bethel United Brethren in Christ Church in New Castle.

Alberta enjoyed bingo, playing cards, country and polka music, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick M. Bender, Sr., who died on April 15, 2000. They were married for over 60 years. She was also preceded by three brothers, Clyde, LeMoyne, and Delbert Swoger, and a sister, in infancy.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Frederick “Butch” (and Judy) Bender, Jr.; and one daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine “Gerry” (and Everett) Bleakney, Jr., all of Ellwood City.

Six grandchildren survive: David Bender, Tim and Tom Beeler, Everett III, Brian, and James Bleakney; as well as eleven great grandchildren.

She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Curtis of Fombell.

Friends will be received on Saturday, November 27, 2010 from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME OF ELLWOOD CITY, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, with the Rev. John Wiseman, of Bethel United Brethren in Christ Church, New Castle, officiating.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.
