Doris Ellis

Doris Ellis, 90, of 702 Morningstar Drive, Ellwood City, (Franklin Twp.), formerly of New Jersey and England, died at her residence on Sunday morning, February 22, 2009.

She would have celebrated her 91st birthday this Wednesday, as she was born on February 25, 1918 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, to the late William A. and Emily Primer Prince Warne.

Her last employment was with the Chubb Insurance Group in New Jersey, where she was the cafeteria supervisor.

She attended Christ Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City, and was affiliated with the Salvation Army.

She did needlework and belonged to the Ellwood City Garden Guild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam S. Ellis, who died October 27, 1995. They had been married for 56 years.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Beryl and Francis Dawso, with whom she lived in Ellwood City, and Elizabeth “Betty” Greer of Little Egg Harbor, NJ.

Four beloved grandaughters also survive: Wendy Britton of Holly Springs, NC; Kristen Britton, D.O. of Rosedale, MD; Tracy Fox of New Brighton; and Sharon Dawso, M.D. of New Wilmington, PA.

Two great granddaughters also survive: Emily Rose and Julia Marie Fox (2 weeks old).

One brother, Rowland Warne, of New Providence, NJ also survives.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Warne, and two sisters, Maude Scott and Lily Jubb. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends will be received from 2-4 P.M. and 6-7:30 P.M. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME OF ELLWOOD CITY, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

A prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. at TURNERS, with Rev. R. Tod Custer, officiating.

Additional visitation and funeral services will be conducted at the Dangler Funeral Home, Summit NJ. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.

Memorial donations may be made to Christ Presbyterian Church, 325 Spring Avenue, Ellwood City or the Salvation Army, 235 6th Street, Ellwood City.
