Mary R. Makepeace

Mary R. Makepeace, 81, of Apartment 601, Schill Manor, Ellwood City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday afternoon, March 29, 2011, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Mary was born in Harmony on February 3, 1930 to the late Clarence Hawkins and the late Mary Ellen Williams Hawkins. She came to Ellwood City at age six and was a member of Lillyville Church of God. She was married to George J. Makepeace, who preceded her in death January 18, 1967. She loved cooking and especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends at Schill Manor.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons and a daughter: Charles H. Queen in 1984, Raymond P. Yohe in 2010, Robin Carlin in 2010, as well as two brothers and two sisters: Clarence R. Hawkins, Paul L. Hawkins, Dortna Bookamer, and Elsie Stone, and two grandsons.

Mary is survived by four sons and four daughters: Goldie M. Homner, Debra Voland, Sharon Makepeace, Jacqueline Peters, and Kenneth V. Queen, all of New Castle, George J. Makepeace II of Ellwood City, James W. Yohe of West Virginia, and Jeffrey W. Spare, of Erie, PA. She is also survived by many grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and a sister, Rosella (and George) Little of Martinsville, OH.

Friends will be received from 6-8 P.M. today, Thursday, March 31, 2011, in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Friends may also call from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. on Friday, April 1, 2011 at TURNER’S with Rev. Dennis Arndt, Mary’s pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.
