Helen E. Workley

Helen E. Workley, 91, formerly of Ellwood City, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday morning, July 28, 2011 at Katera’s Kove, Norwood Drive, Wampum.

She was born in Wayne Township, Lawrence County, on September 26 1919 to the late Harvey E. and D. Blanche Hunt Workley.

Helen taught for 44 years, from 1941 until 1985, in the Ellwood City Area Schools, mainly at Perry Elementary School, where she was head teacher the last 14 years. She was elected Teacher of the Year in the Ellwood School District 1971-2.

She moved from Wurtemburg to Zephyrhills Florida after retiring in 1985, was active in Open Bible Sunday School class at Zephyrhills Methodist Church, and moved back to this area last year, where she was affiliated with the Wurtemburg Presbyterian Church.

She was a member of Pleasant Hill Grange, National Education Association and PA Association of School Retirees.

Helen enjoyed knitting, reading, bowling, and teaching Sunday School.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by two brothers: Chalmer I. Workley and Norman Workley.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 6-9 P.M. on Monday August 1, 2011 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, Ellwood City.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at TURNERS, with Rev. Dr. Daniel Stinson, pastor of Wurtemburg Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the Portersville Bible Church Cemetery, Muddy Creek Twp.
