John Pavuk

John Pavuk, 89, of Ellwood City, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on Tuesday evening, August 2, 2011 in the Ellwood City Hospital.

He was born in McKinleyville, WV on June 25, 1922 to the late Michael Pavuk and the late Martha Yacko Pavuk.

He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in the class of 1940 and served as a corporal and teletype operator in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 423rd Signal Company, serving in England and France. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church and married his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth A. Hienz Pavuk, on June 25, 1966, who survives him. He worked at the former U.S. Steel Ellwood Works until its closure and then for the U.S. Postal Service until retiring. John enjoyed golfing, bowling, and metal detecting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Pavuk.

He is survived, in addition to his wife, by many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 7-9 P.M. today, Thursday, August 4, 2011 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Friday, August 5, 2011 in at TURNER’S with Rev. Fr. Richard Salley, his pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.

Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:45 A.M. to conduct full military rites.

Memorial contributions maybe made, in John’s name, to the Ellwood City Public Library or to the donor’s favorite charity.
