Arthur "Bud" Shallenberger

Surrounded by his entire family, Arthur “Bud” Shallenberger, 91, of Portersville Road, Ellwood City (Wurtemburg) went to be with his Lord and Savior at the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople on Monday evening, May 4 2009.

He was born in Wampum (Chewton) on January 19, 1918 to the late Charles and Minnie Fury Shallenberger.

He was a pipe tester operator in the hot finish dept. at the former Ellwood Works of US Steel until his retirement.

He was a sergeant in the US Army, 337th Eng. Battalion, serving in the Italy campaign and Europe and received 4 bronze stars, and was in the battle of the Bulge (Ardennes).

He was a longtime member of Lillyville Church of God, and was caretaker of the church cemetery and on the cemetery board. He loved to fish, enjoyed baseball, and played softball for his church. He especially loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Cuba I. Rowlands Shallenberger, whom he married August 17 1951; as well as by a brother, George Shallenberger.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Diana Shallenberger of Ellwood City; and by two granddaughters: Amy J. (and Burt) Lauten of Pittsburgh; and Rebecca L. Shallenberger (and byfriend Art Moulton) of Ellwood City.

One great granddaughter, Paige Rebecca Lauten, also survives, as well as three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Shallenberger of Chewton (Wampum); Glenna Nissen in Texas; and Rita (and Norbert) Borowicz in Mercer, PA.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, Ellwood City.

Visitation will also be from 10-11 A.M. on Thursday in the Lillyville Church of God, Franklin Twp., where services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Dennis Arndt, pastor, and Rev. Thomas P. Clyde, a nephew, officiating. Burial will be in Lillyville Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Lillyville Church of God, 408 Hickernell Road, Ellwood City PA 16117. Full military rites will be observed at the church by the Veterans Honor Guard.
