Joseph P. Ferruchie

Joseph P. Ferruchie, 90, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 10:10 A.M. at Jameson Hospital in New Castle.

He was born in Ellwood City on February 9, 1921 to the late James D. Ferruchie, Sr. and the late Nellie Armond Ferruchie.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked at the old National Plumbing in Ellwood City, then Rubin Furniture, Zeigler Furniture, and was retired from the maintenance department at Townsend Engineering Co. in Ellwood City. He later worked at the Butler Auto Auction.

He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City, class of 1939.

He was an active member of Holy Redeemer Parish, where he served as usher for over 45 years.

Joe enjoyed and supported Ellwood sports of all kinds. With Tony Scopelite, they began the Ellwood City Midget Football program. He was equipment manager of Ellwood City football and basketball teams for years.

He umpired in the Ellwood City Softball League for many years, as well as many women’s softball, and baseball leagues. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate and Steelers fan and a season ticket holder for the Steelers for 37 years. He belonged to Ellwood City S.O.I., and Loyal Order of Moose #93, and enjoyed playing gin.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ann Tukalo Ferruchie, whom he married in 1943.

He is also survived by a son and a daughter: Christopher (and Donna) Ferruchie of Ellwood City; Kathleen (and Gene) Foster of Casa Grande, AZ. Three grandchildren also survive: Vinnie Rossolillo, Chris and Carlee Ferruchie, and two great grandchildren: Nicholas and Alexandra Rossolillo.

The last of his family, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters: James V. Ferruchie, Thomas L. Ferruchie, Sylvester J. Ferruchie, Ann Wolfe, Pauline Thomas, and Katherine Link.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Friday, October 14, 2011 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME OF ELLWOOD CITY, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Holy Redeemer Parish Church, 415 Fourth Street, Ellwood City.

Burial will be in Holy Redeemer Parish Cemetery, North Sewickley.
