Andrew C. Schaffer

Andrew C. Schaffer, 88, of Wayne Township, Ellwood City, passed away at his residence on Thursday, February 23, 2012.

He was born in Ridgeley, WV on September 17, 1923 to the late Frank Schaffer and the late Christina Quiring Schaffer. He married his late wife of over 48 years, Violet Mae Kane Schaffer, on August 30, 1945. She preceded him in death on January 25, 1994.

He worked in a Civilian Conservation Corps camp in Marienville, PA and later in the maintenance department of the Ellwood City Forge until retirement. An avid sportsman, he was a member of the Castlewood Rod & Gun Club and worked the turkey shoots and the Ellwood Wampum Rod & Gun Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters, and his son-in-law Donald J. Schlemmer on May 25, 2011, as well as his great granddaughter, Amanda Jean Davis, March 10, 1991.

He is survived by two sons and two daughters, Violet Jean (and Paul) Schlemmer of Ellwood City, Andrew J. Schaffer (and friend Loretta Ridgway) of New Castle, Nancy Schlemmer of Ellwood City, and Kenneth L. (and Penny) Schaffer of Clarion, as well as 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers, Alvin (and Darlene) Schaffer of Fombell and Edward (and Nancy) Schaffer of Mercer.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Sunday, February 26, 2012 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Monday, February 27, 2012 at TURNER’S with Rev. Andrew Shaffer, pastor of Camp Run Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Inc. in Rochester.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Andy’s name, to the donor’s favorite charity.
