William L. Fox

William L. Fox, 72, of Ellwood City and Naples, FL, died on Friday, February 24, 2012 at his residence in Naples.

He was born in Wurtemburg on May 31, 1939 to the late Leo O. Fox and Caroline F. Hartzel Fox. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in the class of 1957 and went on the graduate from Penn State University in 1961 and later received his Masters degree from Clarion University in 1971. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda, Alpha Phi Omega, and Kappa Delta Phi. He was a member of Wurtemburg United Methodist Church.

Mr. Fox was employed by the Lawrence County Superintendent of Schools Office, the Midwestern Intermediate Unit 4, and the Ellwood City Hospital as a Speech and Language Pathologist. He retired from the Midwestern Intermediate Unit 4 in 1997 after 36 years of service and retired from the Ellwood City Hospital in June of 2000.

Mr. Fox was a member of F.&A.M. #599 Ellwood Lodge, the Valley of New Castle Consistory, and the Syria Shrine in Pittsburgh. He enjoyed gardening, swimming, sailing, fishing, and traveling.

An avid PSU supporter, he was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association and the Nittany Lion Club. He donated two named scholarships to PSU; one to the College of Communication, and the other to the LGBTA. He was a member of the Atherton Society and the prestigious Mount Nittany Society.

In later years, Mr. Fox joined the Ellwood City Area Historical Society and became interested in genealogy. He was able to trace his ancestral past into the 1500’s in Switzerland, before his family immigrated to Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany in the 17th century. From Wurttemberg to Wurtemburg in 320 years!

He is survived by his life partner, Ron Geddes, also of Ellwood City and Naples, FL. He is also survived by his brother and sister, Charles W. Fox and Betty Wright, both of Ellwood City, as well as Kathy Wright, his niece, and Charles W. Wright, his nephew.

Friends will be received from 7-9 P.M. on Friday, March 2, 2012 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at TURNER’S with Rev. Jean Smith, his pastor, officiating.

Entombment will follow in Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church Mausoleum, Wayne Township.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Mr. Fox’s name, to Ellwood City Area Historical Society.
