Homer C. Pifer

Homer C. Pifer, 89, of 5849 Library Road, Bethel Park, formerly of Wurtemburg Road, Ellwood City, died on Thursday evening, May 21, 2009 in the Meadowcrest Nursing Center in Bethel Park.

He was born in Ellwood City on December 2, 1919 to the late Chester Pifer and the late Bessie Strawhecker Pifer. He attended Lincoln High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre. Before retiring, he worked as a roller in the hot mill department of the Ellwood Works of U.S. Steel for 35 years.

He was a member of Wurtemburg Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Hungarian Home in Ellwood City, the Ellwood Keenagers Club, and VFW Post #6664 in South Park. He loved fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lewis Savor Pifer, whom he married February 11, 1967. He is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, a daughter and son-in-law, three stepsons and daughters-in-law, and a stepdaughter and son-in-law: Robert C. (and Donna) Pifer, of Florence, AL; Joann (and Robert) Johns, of Jacksonville, FL; Gary (and Chris) Savor, of Ellport; Randy (and Pat) Savor, of West Pittsburg; Bruce (and Debbie) Savor, of Jacksonville, FL; and Tami Savor (and Fred) Mikush, of South Park.

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, C. Bessie Pifer, who died March 8, 1966.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Monday, May 25, 2009 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at TURNER’S with Rev. Richard Byerly, pastor of Wurtemburg Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Wurtemburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Homer’s name, to the Wurtemburg Presbyterian Church, 725 Portersville Road, Ellwood City, PA 16117.

Members of the Veteran’s Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday morning to provide full military rites.
