Laura Marie Minett Hartzel

Laura Marie Minett Hartzel, 90, of the Evergreen Nursing Center, Harmony PA, formerly of Mercer Road in North Sewickley Twp., passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, June 17, 2012 at the Evergreen Center.

She was born in Ellwood City (Wiley Hill) on July 11, 1921 to the late Alfred Joseph Minett, and the late Laura Grace Phillips.

She was an avid bowler, and enjoyed doing crafts. She was a Girl Scout leader, and was a Civil Defense leader in North Sewickley for many years

Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey W. Hartzel, who died April 27, 1992. Married in 1939, they were wed over 53 years.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, William E. Hartzel and George Hartzel, and by one daughter, Laura Halligan. Two grandchildren also preceded her: Ronnie Halligan and Elisha Hartzel.

The last of her family, she was also preceded by six brothers and five sisters: William, Edward, Paul, Raymond, Robert, and Henry Minett; Emma Mae Thompson, Edna Newton, Helen Hulick, Ella Fay Minett, and Margaret Jean Minett.

She is survived by two daughters: Jean Duncan of Ellwood City; Joylee Cook (and Ed Line) of Sumter, SC; and one daughter-in-law, Mardel Hartzel of Ellwood City.

Six grandchildren survive: Kathy Cook, Crystal St. Dennis, Rick Halligan, Bill Hartzel, Virginia Cunning, and Barb Smith. Nine great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren also survive.

Friends will be received from 4 P.M. until the time of service at 7 P.M. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, with Rev. Dr. Daniel Stinson, Turner Funeral Home’s Bereavement Facilitator, officiating.

Interment will be in North Sewickley Cemetery.
