Ruth I. Hollerman

Ruth I. Hollerman, 93, of Blair Nursing Home, North Sewickley, formerly of Ellport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, June 27, 2012 in the Ellwood City Hospital.

Ruth was born in Munhall, PA on July 30, 1918 to the late Edward T. Crawford and the late Mae Buzzard Crawford. She graduated from Taylor-Alderdice High School in Squirrel Hill in 1936 and went on to graduate from the Bellfield Beauty School in Pittsburgh. She married her late husband of 63 years, Harold A. Hollerman, on September 20, 1940. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2004. She had worked as a sewing machine operator at the Dustproof Mattress Cover Company in Ellport, and later at Mine Safety Appliances, Leeds & Northrop, and Fisher’s Big Wheel.

Ruth was a member of Faith Country Chapel, where she had been a member of the Wilson Sunday School Class, the Women’s Missionary Society, and the Home Visitation Committee. She was a leader in the Ellport Homemaker’s Craft Group and had been active in the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts programs. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, and reading, but most especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Viola Thomson, in 1975.

Ruth is survived by two sons and a daughter, Richard H. (and Monica) Hollerman of Ft. Worth, TX, and Doris Mae Burkett and Donald E. (and Margaret) Hollerman, all of Ellport. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Diana (and Keith) Yoder, Dawna (and Eric) Poole, Richard (and Rebecca) Hollerman, and Robert and Rebecca Hollerman, as well as five great grandchildren: Kayla Yoder, Gareth and Calista Poole, and Benjamin and Samantha Hollerman. Her brother, Kenneth E. (and Gay) Crawford, of North Versailles, PA also survives.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Saturday, June 30, 2012 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Friends may also call from 1 P.M. until the time of service at 2 P.M. on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at TURNER’S with Rev. David J. Bell, of the First United Brethren Church of New Castle, former pastor of Faith Country Chapel, officiating.

Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Wayne Township.
