Walter L. Wolfe

Walter L. Wolfe, 91, of North Sewickley Township, Beaver Falls passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday evening, August 22, 2012 in the Kindred Hospital at Heritage Valley Beaver following a long illness.

He was born in Natrona Heights, PA on June 3, 1921 to the late Miles Wolfe and Minnie Shook Wolfe. Walter served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an electrician aboard the SS-188 class submarine USS Sargo in the Pacific Theater. He retired from B&W Tubular Products in Koppel and Beaver Falls where he was an electrician in the specialty metals plant.

He was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City, and also belonged to the former VFW Post #252 and the Ellwood City Saxons, as well as the United States Submarine Veterans. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and target shooting. He was a skilled handyman and enjoyed fixing things around the house, working on the car, and crafting his own inventions.

The last of his family, he was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by five brothers and two sisters: John, Lester, Martha, William, Merle, Ralph and Grace.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn Herring Wolfe, whom he married on June 23, 1944. He is also survived by three daughters: Lynn (and Thomas) Slavic of Ellwood City, Debra (and Stephen) Baich of Joplin, MO, and Valerie (and Gregg) Smith of Sharpsville, PA. Seven grandchildren also survive: Tonya Slavic Hyndman, Bryan Slavic, Matthew Slavic, Craig Baich, Trent Baich, Andrew Smith, and Alex Smith, as well as three great grandchildren: Katelynn Hyndman, Ashley Hyndman, and Kaden Smith.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Monday, August 27, 2012, in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at TURNER’S with Rev. Dennis Arndt, pastor of Lillyville Church of God, officiating.

Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.
