David R. Grant

David R. Grant, 92, of Ellport, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, September 2, 2012 at Northview Estates Ellwood City.

He was born on August 3, 1920 in Akron Ohio, to the late David S. Grant and the late Bertha Niestoeckel Grant.

He was a graduate of Ellet High School in Akron, and then joined the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS M.E. Miller in World War II.

He worked for many years as a quality assurance supervisor at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, retiring in 1982 after 42 years service. He and his wife came to Ellwood City from Akron in 1990 to retire.

A 32nd Degree Mason, David was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons in Akron and the Valley of Akron Consistory. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, and was a voracious reader, but most of all, he enjoyed being with his family.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Helen E. Chima Grant, whom he married on September 19, 1954.

He is also survived by one son, Mark Grant, of Indiana, PA and one daughter, Rebecca “Becky” (and Michael) Ankrom of Ellicott City, MD. One granddaughter also survives, Markie Grant of New York City.

He is also survived by one brother, Ralph Grant of Houston, TX and one sister, Everyl Wolfe, of Uniontown, OH.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Paul, and Gerald “Joe” Grant.

Friends will be received from 11 A.M. until the time of service at 1 P.M. on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue with Rev. John McCready of Park Alliance Church officiating.

Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:45 P.M. on Wednesday to conduct full military rites.

Interment will be in Wurtemburg Cemetery, Wayne Township.

Memorial contributions may be made, in David’s name, to the Ellwood City Public Library or to Odyssey Hospice.
