Mary Ann Arkett

MARY ANN ARKETT, 85, formerly of Wampum Avenue, Ellwood City, passed away to be with the Lord, her family at her side, on Monday afternoon, January 7, 2013 in the Ellwood City Hospital.

She was born on March 26, 1927 to the late Andrew and Martha Chulak Yacko. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City. She married her late husband of almost 42 years, Joseph Anthony “Tony” Arkett on May 25, 1947. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1989. She was deli manager for many years at George’s Shop N’ Save Supermarket in Ellwood.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Ellwood City. Mary Ann loved her family, enjoyed her children and grandchildren and enjoyed cooking for them.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Arkett; one brother, Michael Yacko; and 5 sisters: Alice Yacko, Martha Moehrle, Helen Aiken, Rose Cole, and Evelyn MacLean.

She is survived by her son, James A. (and Penny) Arkett of Ellwood City; and daughter, Barbara (and Patrick) Nicholson of Cranberry Township.

Three grandchildren also survive: Andrew (Jennifer) Arkett; Amy (Mike) Westcott; and Craig (Michelle) Nicholson. Five great grandchildren also survive: Michael Arkett, David and Abbey Westcott, Paige and Ryan Nicholson; as well as two sisters: Betty Jinar of Ellwood City, and Margaret (George) Rowse of Monaca. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends will be received from 4:00- 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 9 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Thursday, January 10 at TURNER’S with Rev. Fr. Richard Salley, of St. Nicholas Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.
