Raymond M. Johnson

Raymond M. Johnson, 90, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, February 3, 2013 in the Ellwood City Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Ellwood City on December 19, 1922 to the late John W. Johnson and the late Lillian Bookamer Johnson. He was a graduate of Princeton High School in the class of 1941 and served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant stationed in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. He married his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Ruth Gallaher Johnson, on February 26, 1948. Raymond worked as a machinist for Aetna-Standard Engineering Company (Blaw-Knox) in Ellwood City for 30 years until retiring. He was a member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed reading, gardening, and sports, including bowling, golf, and most especially baseball.

The last of his family, Raymond was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his sister, Clarinda Manning.

In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by two sons and a daughter: David and Marshall Johnson and Karen (and Gary) Brandes, all of Ellwood City. Raymond is also survived by three grandchildren and six great grandchildren, as well as two nieces

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at TURNER’S with Mr. Thomas O’Brien, minister, officiating.

Interment will be in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Inc. in Rochester.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Raymond Johnson Memorial Fund at First Christian Church, 110 Ada Drive, Ellwood City, PA 16117.
