Josephine R. Custozzo McLaughlin

Josephine R. Custozzo McLaughlin, 83, of Ellwood City, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday morning, April 16, 2013 at 3:32 A.M. with her loving husband of 62 years, James A. McLaughlin, Jr., and her sister, Dot Moyer, and brother-in-law, Fred Moyer at her side at the Ellwood City Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Steve and Dorothy Randatz Custozzo. She was born July 21, 1929 in Ellwood City. She graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1948. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts and a former member of the Junior Women’s Club. She was an associate life member of the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary. She worked at the former Dustproof Mattress in Ellport, had been a dental assistant for Dr. Eugene Dimeo, DDS, and had also worked as a receptionist for her son, Dr. James A. McLaughlin III, DMD. She had also worked as an Avon saleswoman for many years. She was a member of the former St. Agatha Church, now Holy Redeemer Parish Church. Josephine loved playing cards and playing the nickel slot machines in Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, James A. McLaughlin, Jr., whom she married on February 3, 1951 at the former Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. She is also survived by one son, James A. McLaughlin III, DMD, of Salisbury, MD, and one daughter, Dr. Cheryl R. McLaughlin Snyder of Sacramento, CA. One granddaughter, Amanda McLaughlin, of Miami, FL, also survives, as well as three brothers and two sisters: Anthony “Tony” (and Janice) Custozzo of Rochester, NY, Carl (and Eleanor) Custozzo of Ellwood City, Steve Custozzo of Jacksonville, FL, Dot (and Fred) Moyer of Ellport, and Marianne (and James) O’Neill of Rock Hill, SC. Many nieces, nephews, a great niece, and great nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Angelo Custozzo in childhood, her sister, Mary Custozzo in infancy, and her sister-in-law, Delsie Custozzo. Friends will be received from 7-9 P.M. on Thursday, April 18, 2013 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Holy Redeemer Parish Church, 415 Fourth Street, Ellwood City, with the Rev. Fr. Okechukwu Camillus Njoku, parochial vicar, officiating.

Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Parish Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Josephine’s name, to the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary.
