Hazel Jean Wilson

Hazel Jean Wilson, 89, of the Haven Convalescent Home, New Castle, formerly of Ellwood City, departed this life on Wednesday afternoon, April 17, 2013 to enter into her eternal home.

The last surviving child of the late J. Irvan Wright and the late Ruth M. Smith Wright, Hazel was born in Fombell on November 2, 1923. She graduated from Lincoln High School and was a member of Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church. She married her late husband of 51 years, Donald A. Wilson, on February 4, 1948. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1999. She enjoyed gardening and visiting with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and husband, by three sisters: Mary Ella Liebendorfer, Irvina “Vinnie” Strohecker Gasper, and Gladys Burry, and three brothers: Alva, Harvey, and Vance Wright, all of the Ellwood City area. She was also preceded by her brother, Frank Wright, in infancy.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the Ellwood City area and in other parts of the United States.

Per Hazel’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Hazel’s name, to the Ellwood City Library, the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
