Carol Jane Braymer Borter

Carol Jane Braymer Borter, 73, of 704 Argonne Blvd., Ellwood City, passed away on Friday morning, June 19, 2009, at Heritage Valley Beaver Medical Center.

She was born in Meadville, PA, on Sept. 5, 1935, to the late Theodore and Irene Battin Braymer. She graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School, and attended Edinboro College.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John P. Borter, whom she married on June 20, 1959, in Castle Shannon, PA. He died on April 20, 2008.

She was a teaching assistant in the Ellwood City Area School District for many years.

She was active in her church, Slippery Rock Presbyterian, and all the churches her husband served, as an elder, President of the Women’s Association, choir member, and was well known for her cooking skills.

She held many memberships including Order of Eastern Star (50 year member); Director of the Ellwood City Area Public Library; member of Ellwood City Junior Women’s Club; Town and Country Garden Club; Red Hat Society; and was active in the Carpenters Project. She also worked five summers with Volunteers in Mission, providing mobile health fairs to impoverished areas of Appalachia. Her hobbies included playing in numerous card clubs and arranging dried flower arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John P. Borter, whom she married on June 20, 1959, in Castle Shannon, PA. He died on April 20, 2008.

She is survived by two daughters and one son, and daughter-in-law: Linnea E. Borter of Wexford, PA; Heidi C. Borter of Cranberry Twp.; and J. Theodore (and Lisa) Borter of New York City.

Two grandchildren, Gabriella Elise and Christopher Ronald Borter also survive.

She is also survived by two brothers and three sisters-in-law: David (and Jane) Braymer of Ellwood City; John (and Meta) Braymer of Richmond VA.; and Wilma Borter Matysek of Somerville, NJ. Nieces and nephews, Robin and Bobby Rodgers; David Braymer, and John and Lorena Braymer of Ellwood City; Meredith Braymer of Richmond; and great nieces and nephews, Amber, Robbie, Mackenzie, and Daniel Rodgers, and Kyle Braymer all survive in Ellwood City.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Sunday, June 21 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Additional visitation will be from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 22 in the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church, Ellwood City.

Celebration of Life services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 22, with the Rev. Pam Maloney, of First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, officiating, assisted by Dr. David Dawson, Executive Presbyter of the Shenango Presbytery.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church, or to the Ellwood City Rotary.
