Irving S. Feldman

Irving S. Feldman, 81, of Ellwood City, died peacefully on Wednesday morning July 17, 2013 in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born in Ellwood City on August 6, 1931 to the late Morris Feldman, who died in 1958, and the late Lena Lipshitz Feldman, who died in 1984.

Irving graduated from Lincoln High School in Ellwood City in the class of 1949. He attended New Castle Business College from 1950-51. A retired clothier, Irving ran the family’s clothing businesses, Feldman Clothing and Lipshitz’s Clothing on Lawrence Avenue in Ellwood City, from 1956 all the way to the 1990’s. He loved the big band music of the thirties, forties and fifties and collected all the records of the Hit Parade as well as other musical recordings. He was a longtime member of the former Tree of Life Synagogue in Ellwood City, and attended Temple Hadar Israel Congregation in New Castle.

He is survived by two brothers: Herman L. Feldman, Esq., of Ellwood City; Jacob S. Feldman of Youngstown OH; and one sister, Esther Molly Schmerling of Wilmington DE. Two nephews and two nieces also survive: Ralph Feldman of Pittsburgh, Samuel Feldman of Cambridge, OH, Susan Helman of Baltimore, MD, and Elaine Butt of Wilmington, DE; as well as several grand nieces and and grand nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, July 19 at 11:15 A.M. at Tifereth Israel Cemetery, Maple Drive, New Castle, with Rabbi Martin Shorr of Temple Hadar Israel, officiating.

Memorial donations may be made, in Irving’s name, by planting a tree in the Jewish National Forest.
