Thomas G. Nye

Thomas G. Nye, 83, of North Sewickley Township, died on Monday morning, July 20, 2009 in the Ellwood City Hospital.

He was born in Hardyville, PA on August 18, 1925 to the late Edward G. Nye and the late Estella Good Nye.

He was married to Wanda Mae Freshcorn Nye, who survives, on January 11, 1944, while on leave from the U.S. Navy during WWII. They had been married for over 65 years. He had retired from Fox Grinders in Harmony, where he had been a foreman.

Tom had been the caretaker of St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery in Hardyville for years. He was a member of the Word Alive Church in Ellwood City. He was a fisherman and an avid hunter.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law and two daughters and a son-in-law: Thomas R. Nye, of Ellwood City; Donald L. (and Mary) Nye, of Beaver Falls; Stella M. Francis, of Ellwood City; and Tammie L. (and David) Koston, of Beaver Falls.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Thomas (and Annette) Nye, Michael Nye, David Francis, Eric Francis, Heather Francis, Mary Francis, Alyssa Koston, Noah Koston, and Alea Koston. Six great grandchildren also survive him.

He was the last of his family, being preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a brother, Charles Nye, and a sister Mildred Bernd.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Marvin Mayle of Word Alive Church officiating.

Full military rites will be observed at the funeral home by the Veteran’s Honor Guard on Thursday.
