Frieda Berendt

Frieda Berendt, 94, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday afternoon, March 3, 2014 at the Ellwood City Hospital.

She was born in Canton, OH on July 4, 1919 to the late Martin Schuster and the late Anna Wentzel Schuster. Frieda graduated from the New Castle School of Beauty as a licensed cosmetologist and operated Berendt’s Beauty Salon out of her home for many years. She was a longtime devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilt-making.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael F. “Fritz” Berendt on September 18, 1980. She was also preceded by two sisters and a brother: Anna Pactwa, Hilda Stuhlmacher, and Martin Schuster.

She is survived by a daughter and two sons: Louise (and Eugene) Cracraft of Bessemer, PA, Frederick M. (and Constance) Berendt of Vienna, OH, and Paul E. (and Veronica) Berendt of Chewton. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Johanna and Michael (and Nicole) Cracraft, and Katie (and Jason), Kyle, and Gretchen Berendt, and one great grandson, Max Cracraft. One sister also survives, Elsie (and Gene) Gitts of Ellwood City.

Friends will be received from 6-8 P.M. on Thursday, March 6, 2014 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Friday, March 7, 2014 at TURNER’S with Rev. Peggy Suhr-Barkley, her pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.
