Harvey R. Garroway

Harvey R. Garroway, 76, of Koppel, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday morning, October 7, 2014.

He was born on Squaw Run Road in Wayne Township on October 1, 1938 to the late William H. Garroway and the late Blanche V. Rosenmund Garroway.

Harvey graduated from Lincoln High School in Ellwood City in the class of 1956 and he served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963 in Ft. Knox, KY. He graduated from Whiteleather Beauty Academy in New Brighton and was co-owner of Holiday for Beauty in Koppel with his wife for 53 years. Harvey enjoyed weight training and competed in many bodybuilding competitions. He was Mr. Louisville and Mr. Kentucky in 1962. Harvey was a member of the Koppel IMBS. His life was his family and he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Giuffrida Garroway, whom he married on February 23, 1964. He is also survived by his son and daughter, William H. (and Nicole) Garroway and Stephanie (and Robert) Ewing, all of Ellwood City, as well as four grandchildren: Brooke and Beau Ewing and Ariana and Aliya Garroway. One brother and two sisters also survive: W. Harry (and Jean) Garroway of New Brighton, Hetty Wogan of Beaver Falls, and Holly (and James) Pazsint of Wasilla, AK.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. on Thursday, October 9, 2014 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue. Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Friday, October 10, 2014 at TURNER’S with Rev. Ron Cuspard officiating.

Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:45 A.M. the morning of the service to conduct full military rites.

Interment will be in Slippery Rock Presbyterian Cemetery, Wayne Township.
