Robert D. St.John

Robert D. St.John, 85, of Ellwood City, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday afternoon, November 3, 2014 in the Ellwood City Hospital.

He was born in New Castle on October 19, 1929 to the late Charles St.John and the late Thelma Kennedy St. John. He graduated from Shenango High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He married his wife of 63 years, Helen J. McQuiston St.John on December 30, 1950. She survives. He worked at the former Ellwood Works of U.S. Steel Corp for six years and later as a nursing assistant at the VA Butler Medical Center for 28 years until retiring. He was a member of Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church. Bob was a gentleman who will be remembered for his compassion and whose first priority in life was his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert D. St.John II in 1958. He was also preceded by four sisters and a brother: Shirley White, Arlene Whitehouse, Brenda McCurdy, Judy St.John, and Charles St.John.

He is survived, in addition to his wife, Helen, by two daughters: Gayle (and Michael) Fabritius of Beaver Falls and Janet (and Robert) Wiley, Jr. of Ellwood City. Four grandsons also survive: Eric (and Julie) Fabritius, Jared (and Lindsey) Fabritius, Robert (and Jennifer) Wiley III, and Brock (and Lauren) Wiley; as well as three great granddaughters: Madison and Allison Fabritius and Reagan Wiley. He is also survived by two sisters, Margie Stachowiak and Allene (and Lester) Blayney, all of New Castle, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 4-8 P.M. today, Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church, 258 Slippery Rock Drive, Ellwood City, PA 16117, with Rev. Julia Williamson, his pastor, officiating.

Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the church at 10:45 A.M. the day of the service to conduct full military rites.

Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Wayne Township.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Bob’s name, to Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. HCN Swamy and the third floor nursing staff for the wonderful care he received at the Ellwood City Hospital, as well as the staff of the VA Butler Medical Center and Golden Hills Nursing Home, as well as neighbors, relatives, and friends for their thoughts and prayers.
