Janice M. Martin Hienz

Janice M. Martin Hienz, 68, of Fombell, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Wednesday morning, December 31, 2014 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

She was born in New Castle on April 6, 1946 to the late Arthur William “Bill” Martin and the late Marion E. Miller Martin.

She attended Lincoln High School and worked at the Ellwood City Children’s Center. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Ellwood City. She also belonged to the Ellwood City Saxon Club and the Adult Knitting Group at the Ellwood City Library. Janice enjoyed knitting and making crafts and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death, by her husband, John “Jack” Hienz, Jr., who died August 14, 2004. They had been married for 41 years. She also was preceded by a son-in-law, Alex St. George in 2002.

She is survived by four daughters: Christine (and Mark) St. George-Gray of Ravenna, OH; Wendy Hienz of Ellwood City; Deborah Hienz of Fombell; and Patricia Hienz of Columbiana, OH. Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive, as well as four sisters and one brother: Joyce Lutz, Brenda (and Richard) Oliver, and Pam Watterson, all of Ellwood City; Paula (and Dr. William) Smeltz of Indiana, PA; and William B. (and Nancy) Martin of Hopewell Township.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Sunday, January 4, 2014 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Monday, January 5, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Ellwood City, 416 Crescent Avenue, Ellwood City, with Rev. Patricia Cleary, her pastor, officiating, assisted by Pastor Eric Oliver, her nephew.

Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.

Memorial donations may be made, in Janice’s name, to the donor’s favorite charity.
