Dorothy V. Scrivo

Dorothy V. Scrivo, 96, formerly of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, January 20, 2015 in Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle.

She was born in Ellwood City on December 11, 1918 to the late Clarence Deemer, who died in 1962, and the late Martha Smith Deemer, who died in 1948. Dorothy graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1937. She married her late husband of 52 years, Dominick Scrivo, on April 15, 1954. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2006. Dorothy was a longtime member of Riverview Country Chapel (formerly Riverview Free Methodist Church), where she served as a secretary and taught Sunday School for many years. She worked as a secretary to the school nurse at Lincoln High School for 31 years and received a commendation from the school board for her three decades of dedicated service. Dorothy enjoyed gardening and always kept a well-tended garden of flowers and vegetables.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Dale (and Ann) Deemer.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 1 P.M. until the time of service at 3 P.M. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, with Rev. R. Tod Custer, pastor of Christ Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Entombment will be in Zelienople Community Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Dorothy’s name, to the donor’s favorite charity.
