Kathleen "Kay" Timmerman Shaffer

Kathleen “Kay” Timmerman Shaffer, 91, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, February 8, 2015 at Northview Estates in Ellwood City following a lengthy illness.

Kay was born in Piney Fork, OH on May 28, 1923 to the late David “Jim” Timmerman and the late Ellen “Nell” Bunney Timmerman Peppel. She attended Lincoln High School and married her late husband of 60 years, Chester R. “Chep” Shaffer, on October 1, 1948. He preceded her in death on October 22, 2008. Kay was a member of First Christian Church in Ellwood City and worked as a receptionist in the office of Dr. Harold Leitel for many years until retiring. She was a member of the Ellwood City Saxons Club Ladies Lodge and the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ellen Brown, and her brothers, Robert L. Timmerman and William Montford Timmerman.

She is survived by her son, Douglas Shaffer (and partner Walter Rask) of San Francisco, CA, and her sister, Connie (and John) Dengel of Ellwood City.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Kay’s name, to the Ellwood City Public Library.
