Frank C. Sofelkanich

Frank Sofelkanich, 89, of Northview Estates, Ellwood City, died on Tuesday afternoon, February 24, 2015 at Northview Estates. He was born in Ellwood City on January 30, 1926 to the late Frank and Anna Dankovich Sofelkanich.

He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City in the class of 1944 and graduated from Geneva College in 1958. He was a longtime member of the Ellwood City Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where he served as an elder. He worked for years in the office at the former Ellwood Works of US Steel, and later retired from the Lorain Works near Cleveland, where he worked as a supervisor in the cost accounting department.

The last of his family, Frank was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers: Mary Feruchie, Ann Toth, Sophia Lewchenko, Elizabeth Pratt, John Sofelkanich, Michael Sofelkanich, and Charles G. Sofelkanich.

Although he never married, Frank is survived and missed by several nieces and nephews: Barbara (and Kim) Nye, Mark (and Patricia) Lewchenko, Timothy (and Bonnie) Pratt, Susan Pratt, Michael Sofelkanich, Alice Jean (and George) Loncar, and Lynn (and Jake) Armond; as well several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephew. Frank is also survived by his sister-in-law, Margaret Rowse.

No public visitation is planned. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 P.M. on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the Ellwood City Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 317 Route 288, Ellwood City, PA 16117.

Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.

The TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Frank’s name, to the Ellwood City Public Library.

The family would like to thank the staff of Northview Estates, Ellwood City Hospital and physicians, and VITAS Hospice for the excellent personal care they gave to Frank.
