Louis S. Makrenos

Louis S. Makrenos, 89, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday morning, April 11, 2015 in the Anderson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cincinnati, OH following a brief illness.

He was born in Ellwood City on November 24, 1925 to the late Samuel Makrenos and the late Mary Halkias Makrenos. He graduated from Lincoln High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Hamul in the Pacific Theater. He worked in the maintenance department at Calgon Corporation (Nalco) for many years until retiring. Louie enjoyed golfing and was a member of Del Mar Golf Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Betty Jean Makrenos, on May 6, 2010, and also by his daughter, Marjorie R. Keck, on June 21, 2014.

Louie is survived by his daughter, Sandy (and Dave) Meyer of Cincinnati, OH, and his son-in-law, Gary Keck, of Ellwood City. Four grandchildren also survive: Mike (and Renee) Fry, Kelly (and Mike) Wildeboer, Brandi (and Christopher) Darr, and Casey Keck (and Donald “Ree” Boyd); as well as seven grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Fraggos and Mary Makrenos, both of Chicago, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at TURNER’S with Rev. Peggy Suhr-Barkley, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church,

Interment will be in Sylania Hills Memorial Park, Inc. in Rochester.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Louie’s name, to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 307 Wayne Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117.
