Blanche M. Young

Blanche M. Young, 93, of Ellwood City, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday afternoon, April 14, 2015 in Providence Care Center in Beaver Falls following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Ellwood City on August 30, 1921 to the late George O’Brien and the late Grace Stiefel O’Brien. Blanche graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1939. She married her late husband of 61 years, William D. Young, on November 13, 1941. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2003. She worked at Christian Gift and Supply for many years and was an active member of Park Alliance Church where she taught Sunday School, assisted with church plays, and supported various missions. She was also a cheerleading sponsor at Lincoln High School for many years.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters: Harry O’Brien, Rosa Walker, and Etta Hockenberry.

Blanche is survived by her son, Michael S. (and Valerie) Young of Ellwood City, her beloved granddaughter, Amanda Grace Young, her brothers, Robert O’Brien of Wampum and William O’Brien of Ellwood City, and her sister, Clara Watson of Los Angeles, CA.

Per Blanche’s wishes, no public visitation is planned. A memorial service will be conducted at 6 P.M. on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Park Alliance Church, 701 Jefferson Street, Ellwood City, PA 16117. Arrangements have been entrusted to the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Blanche’s name, to the Park Alliance Church.
