Anna "Katie" Swick

Anna “Katie” Swick, 98, of Ellwood City, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, April 22, 2015 at Northview Estates.

She was born in Ellwood City on August 5, 1916 to the late Andrew Hienz and the late Katherine Birk Hienz. Katie married her late husband, Howard Lowell Swick, on August 2, 1937. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1994. She was member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed quilting, knitting, crafts, and gardening.

In addition to her parents and husband, Howard Lowell Swick, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Jean Makrenos, on May 6, 2010, her son-in-law, Louis S. Makrenos, on April 11, 2015, and her granddaughter, Marjorie R. Keck, on June 21, 2014. She was also preceded by six brothers: Andrew, Michael, John, William, Gus, and Henry Hienz.

She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Pavuk of Ellwood City, her granddaughter, Sandy Meyer of Cincinnati, OH, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 6-8 P.M. on Thursday, April 23, 2015 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Friday, April 24, 2015 at TURNER’S with Rev. Peggy Suhr-Barkley officiating.

Interment will be in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Katie’s name, to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 307 Wayne Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Mary Ann DiBiagio, Betty Wilds, and the staff of Trinity Oaks, Northview Estates, and Gentiva Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Katie.
