Mary R. Arkwright

Mary R. Arkwright, 97, formerly of Schill Manor, Ellwood City, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, on Monday morning, June 8, 2015 at Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle.

She was born in Butler, PA on October 13, 1917 to the late John Wilson and the late Mary Simpson Wilson. She graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1936 and married her late husband of 48 years, Robert M. Arkwright, on August 2, 1939. He preceded her in death on August 29, 1987. Mary was a longtime member of Park Gate Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 42 years and also served as church clerk, Sunday School secretary, and was a past president and secretary of the missionary group. She also enjoyed bowling and bowled for the church league and the Early Birds.

Mary was loved by all who knew her. She was always there for family and friends.

The last of her family, she was preceded in death in addition to her parents and husband, by a brother and three sisters: James Wilson, Martha Bable, Isabell Yahn, and Margaret Brown, as well as her granddaughter, Lorie Ann Arkwright; and sons-in-law: Joseph M. Novotne and George Polansky.

Mary is survived by two sons and a daughter: R. Bruce (and Marian) Arkwright and Polly Ann Polansky, all of New Castle; and William B. (and Gloria) Arkwright of Ellwood City. Eleven grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren also survive.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, and from 10-11 A.M. Thursday at Park Gate Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Park Gate Baptist Church, 2840 River Road, Ellwood City, 16117 with Rev. David Childs, her pastor, officiating, assisted by former pastor, Rev. Max Bungard.

Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.
