June Alben Hartzel

June Alben Hartzel, 85, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, June 27, 2015 at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle.

She was born in Portersville on May 2, 1930 to the late Robert Alben and the late Blanche Jones Alben. June attended Lincoln High School and was a member of First Christian Church. She married her late husband of 44 years, John N. Hartzel in August of 1952. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1997. She worked at Shenango China for 44 years until its closure and was a member of the Polish National Alliance, where she served as treasurer, and many other social clubs. June was the first lifeguard at the New Castle Community YMCA, where she taught swimming lessons. She also enjoyed synchronized swimming and scuba diving. She was an early member of the North Sewickley Civil Defense and enjoyed Bingo, going to the casino, and getting together with her beloved nieces and nephews on Wednesday nights.

The last of her family, she was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and husband, by two brothers and two sisters: Kenneth and Arthur Alben, Geraldine Johnston, and Roberta Frishkorn. She was also preceded by two nephews: Thomas Bell and Kenneth Alben.

June is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 5 P.M. until the time of service at 8 P.M. on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, with Mr. Thomas O’Brien, her pastor, officiating.

Entombment will be in Zelienople Community Mausoleum.
