Ralph F. Gibbons, Sr.

Ralph F. Gibbons, Sr., 100, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, August 5, 2015 at Edison Manor Nursing and Rehab in New Castle.

He was born in Ellwood City on May 25, 1915 to the late James Patrick Gibbons and the late Marie A. McDevitt Gibbons. Ralph worked at the former Ellwood Works of U.S. Steel for many years until retiring and was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Helen Tislaretz Gibbons, on January 1, 2011 , as well as his son, Ralph F. Gibbons, Jr. in 1992. Ralph was also preceded by five brothers and five sisters: James W., Arthur M., Charles E., Richard B., and John Gibbons, Alberta Bartle, Kathryn Paswell, Mary Dombeck, Dora Francis, and Patty Ierullo.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter, Sophie Tammaro and Robert J. (and Kim) Gibbons, all of Ellwood City, and John J. (and Peggy) Gibbons of New Castle, as well as his daughter-in-law, Carol Gibbons, of Ellwood City. Eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren also survive, in addition to his brother, Tom (and Patty) Gibbons of Ellwood City.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Sunday, August 9, 2015 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, August 10, 2015 at Holy Redeemer Parish Church, 415 Fourth Street, Ellwood City, with Rev. Fr. Zachary Galiyas, parochial vicar, officiating.

Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.

Those attending the mass are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 A.M. the day of the service as the procession to the church will depart at 9:45 A.M.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Ralph’s name, to the Alzheimer’s Association.
