Maryon Nicklas Yahn

Maryon Nicklas Yahn, 87, of Windover Avenue, Ellwood City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday morning, December 22, 2009, at the Ellwood City Hospital.

She was born in Evans City on November 2, 1922 to the late Lewis E. and Martha Plunkett Nicklas.

Maryon graduated from Evans City High School in the class of 1940, Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing in 1944, and Slippery Rock University in 1970.

She served in WWII as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corp at the 4th General Hospital in Manila, Philippines.

Maryon worked as a school nurse in the Evans City School District and in 1962 began working as a school nurse at Riverside Beaver County School District until retiring in January, 1985.

She married the late Orville C. Yahn in August of 1948. He preceded her in death on May 20, 2005.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ellwood City, Beaver County School Nurses Association, and the local, state, and national PSEA.

She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law: Marsha (and Brian) Trapold and Barbara (and James) Mannarino, all of Pittsburgh, PA, Mary (and William) Dawson of Poland, OH; Maggie (and Barry) Jennings of Fombell; and Anne (and Robert) Dawson of Ellwood City.

Eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive, as well as a sister, Evelyn Kissick, of Oil City, PA.

Friends will be received from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at the TURNER FUNERAL HOME of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue, with Rev. Elizabeth Wallace officiating.

Interment will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery where full military rites will be observed by the Veterans Honor Guard.
