Jack R. Turner, 69, of Ellwood City and formerly of New Castle passed away at UPMC Passavant McCandless Hospital in Pittsburgh, on February 1, 2025.
He was the son of the late Kenneth C. and E. Regina (Wimer) Turner and was born August 17, 1955, in Ellwood City.
He is survived by his wife, of 46 years, Gretchen (Lemke) Turner, two sons; Brett Turner of Clarion, Ian Turner and his wife Andrea of New Haven, CT, one daughter; Keelan Turner-Jones and her husband Mark of Houston, PA, one grandson; Callum Turner, one brother; Kenneth C. Turner and his wife Pam of Annapolis, MD and one nephew Kasey Turner of Annapolis, MD, as well as many cousins and friends.
Jack was a 1973 graduate of Lincoln High School and during the summers he would work at his family’s lake house at Lake Latonka and during the winters he would work for his dad plowing driveways and the roads and loved every minute of it. Jack was also a 1977 graduate of Baldwin Wallace College. He then entered mortuary school at The Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science completing his requirements to be a funeral director and embalmer, in 1978. Upon graduation, he returned home to Ellwood City to work for his father at Turner Funeral Home and eventually he would move with his wife and family to New Castle when his father purchased Turner-Myers Funeral Home, in 1982. He worked there and served the families of New Castle until it ceased operations, in 2017. Jack was known as a compassionate man and caring funeral director by all the families he served in his over 45 year career.
Jack referred to himself as a "gear head" and he loved English Racing cars especially Triumphs and Mini Coopers. He also enjoyed restoring British automobiles. Jack loved hockey and coached youth hockey in New Castle. Jack was also proud when his grandson Callum got his first pair of skates and was on the ice at only 3 years old. Jack was a diehard Pittsburgh sports fan, especially the Pittsburgh Penguins. Jack always said that watching the Penguins was just not the same as they were when they played in the Civic Arena. Jack was a loving father and grandfather and trusted friend to so many.
Jack is preceded in death by his 17-year-old cat, Gouda.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations, in Jack’s name, to the Mario Lemieux Foundation, or to the charity of your choice.
