James L. "Captain Jim" Smith, of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, March 3 2017 at the Ellwood City Hospital. Jim was a loving family man. He loved mowing his lawn, caring for his cars and was an avid boater. Jim has spent his entire life, 92 years, in Ellwood City and has lived in the same house his father built. He was born in Ellwood City to the late Harry and Louise McKelvey Smith. He served in the US Army. Jim worked at the former Ellwood Works of US Steel , was a school bus driver for Ellwood Transit, and then worked at Allied Auto Parts. He was a member of F.& A.M. #599, Ellwood Lodge; was a 32nd degree mason with the New Castle Consistory and the Ellwood City Saxons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Kissick Smith, one son, David B. Smith and his favorite pet Scottie dog, Charlie. He is survived by two sons and one daughter: Larry Smith of Ellwood City, Chester A. (and Judy) Smith of Darlington PA and Cynthia S. Smith, Ellwood City. He is also survived by four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Ila Schuster of Ellwood City who he enjoyed playing cards with (But they cheated!) Friends will be received from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 6, in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 500 Sixth Street, Ellwood City. Services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 6, at TURNERS.
